Turning involves rotation of the workpiece while the cuttingtool moves in a linear motion. This results in a cylindrical shape. Contrary to a mill, a lathe operates by fixturing cylindrical stock, called a rod, into a rotating chuck jaw on the machine. As this chuck rotates at a high RPM, so does the stock, and a fixed-orientation tool then translates along and across the stock to cut part features. For cylindrical parts such as pins, shafts, and spacers, or parts with general rotational symmetry, ‘turning’ them on a lathe is usually the simplest and most cost effective choice.
The ability to program and automate machining operations makes CNC turning suitable for both prototype and production quantities of parts.
Turning capabilities include contour, form, taper, and straight turning as well as single point threading and broaching. Live tooling facilitates efficient machining of complex patterns and shapes. Components may be machined from steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and bronze in a range of alloys including difficult to machine exotic alloys such as Invar and Inconel. CNC lathes have the capacity to turn parts up to 17.71” in diameter and 31.49″ long.
Kintec’s shop services showcase impressive machining capabilities. Generally, here are a few machine size guidelines. However, if you receive a quote that goes beyond these guidelines and requires an RFQ, please remember to request a quote review for our assessment.
CNC turning offers several advantages over conventional manual turning processes. These advantages make CNC turning a preferred choice for precision machining and high-volume production in various industries
Our CNC Services
Swiss turning is specialized in machining small-diameter parts with intricate geometries and high precision. It excels at producing long, slender parts with tight tolerances. The precision of Swiss turning makes it ideal for industries that require high-precision parts, such as medical, aerospace, and electronics.
EDM(Electrical Discharge Machining) is a specialized machining process that uses electrical discharges or sparks to remove material from a workpiece. EDM is a versatile method that addresses challenges posed by various materials, shapes, and precision requirements in industries ranging from manufacturing to medical devices and beyond.
CNC milling is utilized to craft intricate prismatic forms and flat surfaces, catering to a diverse range of commercial and industrial products. Multi-axis CNC machines possess the ability to achieve their precision and versatility without relying on fixed tooling. Their design allows them to adapt easily to various tasks and shapes, resulting in high flexibility.
Surface finishing involves various manufacturing processes designed to enhance a product’s appearance, durability, and performance. Common methods include polishing, painting, sandblasting, plating, powder coating, brushing, anodizing, and heat treatment, among others. These techniques improve visual aesthetics, protect surfaces from wear and corrosion, and can also enhance specific mechanical properties depending on the application.
Kintec is able to machine components in a wide range of materials. These include metals as well as plastics. It is suitable for both prototyping as well as large-batch manufacturing. When it comes to machining parts, there are a lot of variables. KinTec can help you determine the best way to have your parts made.
